Adrenergic Receptor Blockers
Dr. Hülya SAĞMANLIGİL ÖZDEMİRa
aFarmakoloji AD, Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, VAN The knowledge about the sympathetic system is quite important in knowing various physiologic and physiopathologic cases. In the recent years, there have been big improvements in understanding of the functions and molecular structures of adrenergic receptors. A number of new subtypes of α and β adrenergic receptors were identified by using biochemical and pharmacological techniques. Those receptors are both belong to a large group of membrane receptors which conduct intracellular stimuli by attaching G proteins. However, the signal mechanisms they used are different. Beside these, the physiologic and pathologic roles of α and β adrenergic receptors and the clinical usage of their blockers which play a role in case of sickness and homeostasis were also described. Keywords: Adrenergic receptors, receptor subtypes, adrenergic receptor blockers, physiological function, therapeutic relevance, second messenger systemsTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(18):22-31
