Histamin And Clinical Pharmacology Of Antihistamines
Dr. Yusuf KARATAŞa
aFarmakoloji AD, Çukurova Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ADANA Histamine is a biologically active amin in the body that is found in many tissues, have complex physiologic and pathologic effects through multiple receptor subtypes, and is often released locally. It stimulates the production of mucus and the dilation of blood vessels. Also, it is called autocoid or local hormon. Allergy sufferers recognize histamine's effects as a runny nose and swollen nasal passages. Antihistamines prevent histamine from binding to histamine (h1) receptors, thereby blocking the histamine reaction. Antihistamines are different from the medications called histamine (h2) antagonists that are used to treat peptic ulcer disease and heartburn. Keywords: Histamine, a nose runny, histamine h1 antagonists, heartburn, histamine h2 antagonistsTurkiye Klinikleri J Int Med Sci 2005, 1(1):55-66
